Good Luck to them both, and they have a target of £1000, please help raise this money by sponsoring them at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team-lucy

Rich and his mate Chris have raised a staggering £843.75 to add to our family total taking the money we've raised since Lucy's death is now £60,562.65. She would be so proud of her brother and his continued efforts to raise money for Roy Castle. AS a family we to are extremely proud of his achievements. He's now planning his next marathon ride!!! Watch this space. Mind you can still donate via this site, go on you know you'll feel so much better.

Family Practice !!

4th June 2019
Gearing up! A great day at the warm up for tomorrow. I registered and picked up my race number and the whole family road the ToC Family Fondo. It was made up of 2 mile laps, Eirlys did a personal best of 5 laps, Helen and the boys 6. We caught up with Chris and the family, I bought some overpriced ice creams and now I'm thinking about bed. I need to be ready to ride some miles, raise some money and fight some cancer tomorrow. Wish me luck

They did it !!!

Another leg smashing at Tour of Cambridgeshire. Chris and I started well, against a straightening wind and temperatures that reached 30c. Hot and tired the field started to fragment, part of that was my vision part of that was people were dropping out like flies, hot tired flies on bikes. I got separated from Chris but we both battled the unfriendly conditions and communal pissoires with our dignity reduced. It was busy on the course, with less standing around at the start and to make things more difficult the organisers had chosen some of the worst surfaces in Cambridgeshire. With a baboon's butt and a giant's thirst I managed a sprint finish for 3 miles, as I kept forgetting where the finish was consumed all to be topped of with a sharing bag (not to be shared) of mint Aero balls. Thanks all for your support.6 hours 35 mins, windblown, hot and tired. I am truly empty. Time for a beer. Richard has raised £695.00 so far which when added to our family total will take it over £60,000 that we have raised since Lucy died

Training !!!

19th May 2019
Yesterday was a bit of nightmare ride. The bike had been in workshop getting fixed after my ham-fisted attempts at putting a new chain on, led to it snapping when I was riding last weekend. After the mechanic had corrected a few things and he asked how I had moved from being a bike mechanic to what I do now, which was down to my old boss saying "You have a degree, really you should be doing a graduate job, we want to train an apprentice who will stay and you are not a very good mechanic." Anyway I was raring to go, very little rain was forecast. When I got up at 4.15, it was bloody raining. And it continued, I couldn't' get my legs going for the first hour of the ride. My heart and legs were heavy, around Pertenhall 40 miles from home I got a puncture. I replaced the tube and carried on, slowly the tyre pressure went down, I stopped to pump it up. It rained so hard at one point the road turned into a river and I thought I would cry. I had another enforced break as a tractor towing a sprayer rolled over coming toward me from the opposite direction. I struggled home to post a slow 93.5 miles, missed one of the boy's football matches entirely and was in big trouble. Looking after the kids for the afternoon we survived on a heady mix of muffins, beer and ice cream, (they had muffins I had the beer, we all had the ice cream). We dined on a chinese takeaway where I chose a lovely main and the kids chose a Thai noodle dish that was inedibley hot. All washed down with more beer and a sense that when the Tour of Cambridgeshire arrives I will have faced every possible weather challenge except for a plague of locusts which will probably be forecast for next weekends' final training. Please sponsor me, to help inspire me and kick lung cancer where it hurts. https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team-lucy No photo description available.

Tour of Cambridgeshire 100 mile cycle

10th May 2019
My sister Lucy-Jane Bowen died in 2012 of lung cancer aged 32. Since then my family and friends have been fighting to beat lung cancer, we've raised over £50k, won an award and celebrated our memories of Lucy. Our Lucy liked to party, she loved friends, dancing, drinking, bikes, fires on beaches and swimming in the sea around the Gower. This year with my good friend Chris Tate we'll be attempting the inaugural Tour of Cambridgeshire 100 mile cycling event. Lung cancer kills more people per year than any others cancers, yet it receives the least research funding. Every year I train to cycle somewhere and this year the Tour of Cambridgeshire have added a 100 mile event. Chris and I haven't trained as much as we should have, but we always finish and we're looking forward to a great day. Help support us to give hope and help to families like our through the only charity dedicated to beating lung cancer, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
