This is how it ends. Needless to say it didn't go smoothly, we were started late by the race control making it difficult to meet the vital cut off point at a god forsaken place called Pondersbridge. We all set off me Chris Tate and Smudge, Chris had not trained due to an injury, it was going to be best endeavors. Immediately Chris' injury played up. Chris wanted Smudge and I to continue, we shot off and got to Pondersbridge before 1600 when the beasts would emerge from the fen. We left the feed station to find a surprising text, Chris had made it to the feed station, beat the cut off and was 15 mins behind us. Smudge and I were inspired and shot off across a windy fen section like scalded cats, no-one overtook us for 45 mins and we towed a group of 7 people. We cycled in front, taking the hit from the wind while 7 other freeloaders sat on our back wheels and got an easier ride. We finished and enjoyed an old speckled hen while waiting a short while for Chris, who had completed the 80 miles, in a determined, gritty and utterly crazy endeavor. We were thanked at a feed station by a lady who had got a ride in our drag, also we met her at the finish line, then a random bloke came up and said he owed us a drink (but he didn't get us one) as he said he wouldn't have finished if it were not for the tow he got from us.
